School Choice is coming to Texas!

Bay Area Christian School plans to carefully implement Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA), beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, for both current and newly admitted students.  As we continue to learn more about this program, we will share updates here as they become available.

For more information, visit the Texas Private School Association (TPSA) website: https://texasprivateschools.org.

    From the Texas State Comptroller

Texas is taking a bold step to expand educational opportunities. In 2025, the Legislature created an education savings account program, formally named the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program, to give parents the freedom to choose the best path for their child’s future.

TEFA is administered through the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Following a rigorous selection process, Odyssey was selected as the certified educational assistance organization that will assist the Comptroller’s office in administering the program.

Odyssey will manage an online parent portal to guide families through the application process, allow them to search for eligible schools and service providers, and access their account to pay for eligible education expenses. Applications are expected to open in early 2026.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA)?

A TEFA is a program that allows eligible families to receive state funds that can be used toward approved educational expenses.

Will Bay Area Christian accept Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) funds?

Yes. We will accept TEFA funding for newly admitted and current students.  The State of Texas has allocated a limited amount of funds for the 2026–2027 school year, meaning not all applicants will receive TEFA funding. However, we encourage everyone to apply.

Are current families eligible for TEFA funds?

Eligibility is determined by the state, not the school. While we control our admissions process, we do not control which students receive TEFA funding. All TEFA decisions are made by the State of Texas. Families must apply through the state’s TEFA program. Once approved, they may direct those funds to cover tuition at BACS. Any family who applies for BACS tuition assistance must first apply for the State TEFA.

If I receive TEFA funding, am I guaranteed enrollment?

No. TEFA funding from the State does not guarantee admission. Our admissions process and the State’s TEFA distribution process are completely separate.

How will the State distribute TEFA funds?

Distribution details are not yet available. We will share updates as soon as the State releases more information.

Can Bay Area Christian help families secure TEFA funding?

No. All TEFA funding decisions are made by the State of Texas.

Does TEFA funding replace the school’s current Tuition Assistance?

    Not necessarily.
    - Some families may receive TEFA funds that replace school-provided financial aid.
    - All families applying for BACS tuition assistance must first apply for State TEFA funds.

How will TEFA payments be processed at BACS?
    • TEFA funds are typically sent directly to the school or through a stage-managed portal.
    • Our Finance Department will coordinate with the family to ensure the correct application of funds.
    • Parents remain responsible for any balance not covered by TEFA funds.
    • Families are ultimately responsible for tuition. If TEFA funds are delayed, families may need to make temporary arrangements with our Finance Office to remain in good standing.
How will new TEFA students affect the culture of the school?

As always, we will continue to uphold our rigorous admissions standards for both academics and behavior. All families must complete our standard admissions application process. TEFA eligibility does not guarantee admission; space and admissions criteria still apply.
