April 16 Head of School Weekly Update
Dear BACS Families,
As a teenager, I remember frequently whitewater rafting down the Ocoee River in Tennessee. At the end of a three-hour rafting trip was the final set of Class IV rapids. However, if you hit the rapids when the dam was being released, the rush of water would turn them into Class V rapids. Of course, with a raft full of teenage boys, that was exactly what we hoped for, and more often than not, we experienced the full power and chaos of the rushing water. Without fail, each time the Class V rapids won. We were thrown in different directions, the boat flipped over, and we ended up smiling and laughing in the aftermath of the adventure.
In many ways, school life feels the same during the last quarter of the school year. It’s packed with activity and excitement, but by the end, everyone is exhausted. As we navigate this final stretch, I would encourage you to count it a blessing each day that you get to be involved in your children’s school lives. Whatever season you’re in, whether you’re just beginning the journey or preparing to watch your graduate walk across the stage in a few weeks, take a moment to step back and enjoy it.
Without question, my favorite meeting of the year is spending time with our Legacy Students and Families; those who have attended BACS from Kindergarten through 12th grade. These families have truly experienced all that BACS has to offer. I love hearing their stories: what brought them here, what kept them here, and what they hope never changes. At times, there are tears as parents share personal sacrifices they made to keep their children at BACS. I often wish I could capture these testimonies because their perspective is both encouraging and deeply humbling. I leave those meetings full of gratitude to be part of this community.
The question I most look forward to asking is, “Which faculty or staff member has made the biggest impact on your child’s life at BACS?” While the answers vary, the themes are consistent. What’s remarkable is that families often struggle to choose just one, and instead begin naming many. That speaks volumes about the depth and quality of the Christian educators who pour into our students every day on this campus.
As we finish the year, I ask that you continue praying for our students, faculty, staff, and administration as we strive to finish strong and carry forward the legacy of Bay Area Christian School.
It’s a great day to be a Bronco!
