May 7 Head of School Weekly Update

by Les Rainey on May 07, 2026

Dear BACS Family,

Earlier this week, we held our annual spring performing arts nights. As the high school choir concluded Monday evening, they closed with one of my favorite hymns, It Is Well With My Soul.

The song was written by Horatio Spafford in 1873 after losing his four daughters in a tragic ship collision. Just two years earlier, he had also lost much of his fortune in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

What makes this story so powerful is not that Horatio immediately felt peace. In reality, the hymn was written years later. But through time, healing, grief, and through the work of God’s goodness, Horatio learned that peace is not the absence of sorrow; it is the presence of Christ in the middle of it.

In two weeks, the Class of 2026 will walk across the stage in their final experience as BACS students before heading into their next chapter. I have no doubt they will be academically prepared for college and whatever opportunities lie ahead. Ultimately, though, our prayer for this class is that they will have a faith grounded in the trust that God is still good even when life is not easy.

They, like all of us, will face their own “sea billows” of disappointment, frustration, heartbreak, and uncertainty. And when they do, our prayer is that they will be able to declare, “It is well with my soul.”

As we wrap up this Thursday, don’t forget to check out the “Year-In-Review” publication coming out next week to close out the school year and highlight the amazing things happening at 4800 West Main St.

It’s a great day to be a Bronco!
