October 1 Head of School Weekly UPdate

by Les Rainey on October 01, 2026

Dear BACS Family,

What a great week it has been celebrating the heritage of Bay Area Christian School! As we continue through Homecoming Week, we look forward to seeing many of you this evening for our parade and pep rally and again tomorrow for the chili cook-off and football game.

Homecoming is certainly a time for school spirit, traditions, and having fun together, but I believe it should also be a time to remember and celebrate our rich heritage.

Fifty-four years ago, a group of faithful parents and church leaders answered the call to begin a Christian school. Think for a moment about the uncertainty they must have faced and the faith required to move forward. They even had the foresight and wisdom to purchase 48 acres of land that, at the time, seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. Today, we couldn't ask for a better location.

We are quite literally standing on the shoulders of their faithfulness and obedience.

I would also be remiss not to recognize Mr. Freddie Cullins, who faithfully served BACS for 35 years as Head of School. This summer, I had the opportunity to visit with Mr. Cullins, and he shared a story that has stuck with me. Years ago, he and another parent came to the school to crawl underneath a building and repair pipes that had burst.

That alone says something about servant leadership. But here's the part that really got me: it was Christmas Day.

Stories like that leave me with a tremendous sense of gratitude and humility. BACS is what it is today because generations of people faithfully served the mission while also being willing to simply fill the gaps when something needed to be done.

Why?

Because there was a generation of students worth serving and a mission worth sacrificing for.

As we continue to grow as an organization and constantly look for ways to improve, my prayer is that we never lose those values. May we always be a community of people who serve faithfully, who fill the gaps when needed, and who understand that what we are building today is ultimately for the generations who will come after us.

It would take an entire book to properly recognize the thousands of parents, pastors, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and friends who have sacrificed and served throughout the history of BACS. So, during this Homecoming Week, let me simply say thank you.

Thank you to those who came before us, and to those faithfully serving today.

And thank you to the families who continue to entrust their children to BACS.

Because of God's faithfulness and the obedience of so many people over the past 54 years, BACS continues to be a place where students can grow academically and, above all, a place where students can come to know Christ, be built up in Christ, and be equipped to serve Christ.

We have inherited a wonderful legacy. Now it is our responsibility to faithfully carry it forward.

It’s a great day to be a Bronco!
